Dr. Kamran K. Abdollahi is a Professor, Program Leader and Graduate Director for the Urban Forestry Program, Department of Ag Sciences and Urban Forestry, College of Sciences and Agriculture at Southern University and A&M College. In addition, Dr. Abdollahi is a faculty researcher for the SU Agricultural Research and Extension Center. He has been instrumental in establishing the first urban forestry B.S. degree granting program in the USA in 1994 and has led the program to obtain Ph.D. degree granting status in 2011. At the national level he is currently serving as an advisor to the United States Secretary of Agriculture on the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council (NUCFAC), a position he served previously from 1999-2003. He is also serving as a national chair for the National Association of University Forest Resources Professionals (NAUFRP) and the Society of American Foresters Accreditation Council. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Arboriculture and Urban Forestry and reviewed articles for more than five Journals related to urban ecosystem and environment. He served as Vice President and President of the Arboricultural Research and Education Academy (AREA) of the International Society of Arboriculture in 2010-2012. He has served on the executive board of the ISA Southern Chapter. Dr. Abdollahi has provided leadership in Urban Forestry for the Society of American Foresters (SAF) by serving as Chair-elect and Chair for more than 6 years. Dr. Abdollahi has made more than 90 scientific presentations and published 50 articles. He has served as co-director for the Gulf Coast Regional Climate Change Assessment Program in collaboration with the Whitehouse office Science and Technology Policy and the US Global Change Research Program. He co-edited several scientific books on the subject. Dr. Abdollahi has secured nearly 10 million dollars in grants and contracts as project director and co-investigator from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), National Science Foundation (NSF), United States Forest Service (USFS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Department of Interior (USDOI), Ford Foundation, many more. He has established three laboratories and directed many thesis and dissertations. He has directed more than 15 national research and teaching projects including urban forest ecosystem research, bioenergy research, air pollution and biobased research. He has contributed to the Oxford Roundtable on Global Climate Change in Oxford University, UK leading to peer reviewed publication and book chapters and contributed to the United States National Global Climate Change Assessment Report with direct link to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report (IPCC). Dr. Abdollahi has a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering (1983) from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA , M.S. in Agriculture & Soil Sciences and Ph.D. in Forest Eco physiology from the Arthur Temple College of Forestry at S.F. Austin State University (SFA, 1991). Dr. Abdollahi is the recipient of numerous awards such as the Southern University System Global Excellence in Scholarship, College Teaching Excellence Award, SU Grantsmanship Award and Most Proposal Funded Grants Award, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Award, Governor’s Recognition for Emergency Management, Smithsonian Institution Recognition Award, Louisiana Arborists Association Award, the National Urban Forestry Advisory Service Award, Global Change Research Recognition Award, Society of American Foresters Urban Forestry Award. Dr. Abdollahi has served on more than 100 MS thesis, PhD dissertation and graduate Capstone committees and established and directed more than 5 nationally federally funded laboratories.
